Hello folks, I know it has been a while since my last post! That is why I was so pleasantly surprised to log on and see that there has still been quite a bit of traffic on here. Thank you to those who check back regularly for new posts and thank you to the new followers (high five).
It has been a busy last few weeks with work, adventuring when we can, summer coming to a close and Ella starting the second grade (I have only cried a few times). I just got off work, started a load of laundry and have a bit till Jesse gets home from work so I have a bit to sit down and tell you about our whitewater rafting adventure!!
Jesse and I first visited the Ocoee back in January ( I have already blogged that adventure) and as we were headed home I looked at Jesse and said
"the next time we come here, we need to go whitewater rafting". So, we talked about it a few times and after talking to my in-laws and brother in-law, we decided we should all go together for a family outing. After Jason (my brother in-law) did some researching, we decided to book with the Ocoee Adventure Center.
On July 22nd, we loaded up and headed out at 9:00 for the Ocoee River. The whole ride there I was so excited I could hardly stand it. I checked my phone several times to see how much further we had till we arrived to the center. The closer and closer we got, the more excited I was. Once we were driving along the river, we could see the rafters. I kept thinking "we are going to be doing that, it looks so awesome"! My stomach was also in knots because I have never done anything like this before. Jesse and I have only kayaked and canoed flat water at Rock Island so this was a HUGE step up for us!
We arrived to the center, checked in and had a picnic lunch that my in-laws packed for us. Then we changed clothes, put on our gear, loaded the bus and off to the river!
Once we got off the bus and into our raft, our guide Mike (who was awesome) did a little introduction to whitewater rafting and crash training course. We then got out of our raft and carried it to the ramp. After that, the nerves really hit me! After the first little bit and after the first few waves, it was just pure excitement. It was absolutely flipping amazing!!
When it was time to pull the raft out of the water I was so disappointed, I did not want it to end! We then loaded up onto the bus and headed back to the center.
Here is my crew with our guide, Mike thanks so much you were awesome!
Here is a photo of me and my forever adventure companion. My hubby and I look pretty great in our whitewater gear!
So we went, we saw and we conquered the middle Ocoee! I learned two lessons that day. One, never be afraid to try something new. Even if it is whitewater rafting when you are used to only flat water. Two, my Bullock family is pretty darn awesome!!
Until next time (promise it won't be so long)!
