Fall Creek Falls State Park

Encompassing more then 25,000 acres, Fall Creek Falls State Park was voted the best state park in the southeastern United States by the readers in Southern Living magazine in 2000. Considering everything the park has to offer, that's not very surprising! Situated across the upper Cane Creek Gorge area of the Cumberland Plateau, the park is known for its numerous waterfalls, cascades, gorges, streams, geological formations and virgin stands of hardwood timber. Cane Creek Gorge winds for nearly 15 miles from the Cane Creek Cascades to the mouth of Cane Creek at Caney Fork.

Once the creek enters the gorge, it drops several hundred in less than a mile, falling 45 feet at Cane Creek Cascades and 85 feet over Cane Creek Falls. Nearby Rockhouse Creek pours into the same plunge pool, falling almost 125 feet.

The parks also features the man-made Fall Creek Falls Lake, which is controlled by a dam and dominates the park's southern section. The park boasts not only the highest water fall in the eastern United States , the 256 foot Fall Creek Falls, but the second largest cave chamber in the United States: Rumbling Falls Cave. Wow!

Fall Creek Falls State Park is open 24 hours a day although the access road to the falls is gated and locked at dark. Fall Creek Falls offers an inn, restaurant and conference center, 2 group lodges, 30 cabins, 229 campsites, 5 covered picnic pavilions, 12 picnic areas and 4 playgrounds. Boating, swimming and fishing, biking and hiking trails, a nature center, horse stable, amphitheater and golf course are also available. Much of the park is wheelchair accessible and there are numerous wheelchair accessible campsites.

My Instagram photos DO Not do this park justice, this park is absolutely breathtaking! The last time I visited, we were in the middle of a slight lack of rain so some of the falls were not flowing as heavily as they usually do. I will definitely be going back soon to see them again!

When you go, do not miss seeing Piney Creek Falls (shown above). This was my favorite part of exploring this park! It was absolutely stunning, I could have sat in this spot for hours and hours!

Fall Creek Falls State Park can be found at 2009 Village Camp Road in Pikeville, TN. For reservations, call 1-800-250-8611 for the park office. You can also visit www.tnstateparks.com for more park information.

I hope you visit Fall Creek Falls State Park soon and enjoy the adventure as much I did. It's rainy in Rock Island today but tomorrow would be a gorgeous day to get out and do some "park hopping". If you do, make sure this one is on your list!!
